Stellantis has unveiled its groundbreaking STLA AutoDrive 1.0 system, marking a significant advancement in vehicle automation. This new system offers SAE Level 3 capabilities, allowing for hands-free and eyes-off driving, aimed at enhancing driver convenience and safety. As part of Stellantis’ wider technology strategy, STLA AutoDrive is developed to integrate with their other innovations like STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit.
The STLA AutoDrive system is designed for urban commuters, reducing the burden of driving in stop-and-go traffic. Capable of operating at speeds of up to 60 km/h, the system takes over routine driving tasks such as steering, braking, and maintaining safe distances, providing drivers with the freedom to engage in non-driving activities like reading or watching content.
Ned Curic, Stellantis’ Chief Engineering and Technology Officer, emphasized the system’s ability to make the most of a driver’s time, stating that STLA AutoDrive enhances the driving experience by handling everyday tasks. This ensures that drivers can focus on other activities, improving overall efficiency during travel.
The system is activated via a simple physical button and functions based on traffic and environmental conditions. When suitable, drivers are notified that AutoDrive can take control. Once engaged, the system seamlessly manages the car’s functions, ensuring safety and comfort throughout the drive.
Stellantis aims to offer an intuitive user experience, ensuring that the transition to automated driving is as smooth as possible. The system’s reliability and ease of use make it a promising solution for a future of more intelligent and autonomous vehicles.
STLA AutoDrive is part of Stellantis’ long-term vision for vehicle automation, with future developments intended to further enhance the driving experience. The system is designed to be scalable, allowing for future upgrades as technology evolves, positioning Stellantis at the forefront of the automotive industry.
By introducing this new system, Stellantis not only aims to lead in the field of automation but also demonstrates its commitment to improving vehicle intelligence. The unveiling of STLA AutoDrive 1.0 sets the stage for the company to further innovate in the realm of autonomous driving and redefine the future of mobility.
