Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer, has introduced its second-generation Shenxing battery, marking a significant advancement in fast-charging technology. The new battery can deliver an impressive 520 kilometers (approximately 323 miles) of driving range after just five minutes of charging, surpassing the capabilities of competitors like BYD and Tesla.
Demonstrated at CATL’s recent Tech Day event, the Shenxing battery also exhibits robust performance in cold climates, achieving an 80% charge in 15 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C (14°F).
In addition to the Shenxing battery, CATL unveiled “Naxtra,” its first sodium-ion battery brand, which is poised for mass production by December 2025. Naxtra offers a more cost-effective and safer alternative to traditional lithium-ion batteries, providing up to 500 kilometers of range.
CATL also introduced a dual-power battery system capable of delivering a remarkable 1,500 kilometers (approximately 932 miles) of range, combining a standard fast-charging cell with an auxiliary power pack.
These innovations underscore China’s growing leadership in EV battery technology, aiming to alleviate range anxiety and accelerate global EV adoption.
