Mercedes-Benz Vans has achieved a significant milestone by producing its five millionth Sprinter van, marking over three decades of innovation in the commercial vehicle sector. The landmark vehicle, an all-electric eSprinter, was assembled at the company’s Charleston, South Carolina facility and delivered to FedEx, a longstanding partner and major fleet customer.

Introduced in 1995 as a successor to the TN series, the Sprinter has set benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and versatility. The second generation, launched in 2006, expanded its appeal with increased cargo capacity and diverse body styles. The third generation, debuting in 2018, transformed the Sprinter into a connected mobile workspace, featuring the MBUX multimedia system and advanced telematics. The latest eSprinter continues this legacy, offering sustainable solutions for modern logistics.

The Charleston plant, established in 2006, plays a pivotal role in Mercedes-Benz’s North American operations. A significant expansion in 2018 enabled full part-by-part assembly, catering to regional demands. In 2024, a $50 million investment facilitated the launch of the eSprinter, underscoring the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

FedEx, a global logistics leader, has integrated the eSprinter into its fleet, aligning with its goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040. The addition of electric vehicles like the eSprinter supports FedEx’s sustainable last-mile delivery initiatives across multiple states.

With over 1,000 configurable versions, the Sprinter continues to adapt to diverse industry needs. The production of the five millionth unit not only celebrates past achievements but also signals Mercedes-Benz’s ongoing dedication to advancing commercial mobility solutions.
