Kia latest electric SUV, the EV3, has achieved a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), Europe’s leading independent vehicle safety authority. The accolade was awarded to the EV3 equipped with Kia’s DriveWise Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Pack, while the version without this package received a commendable four-star rating.
The Euro NCAP evaluation assessed the EV3 across four key safety categories. The vehicle scored 83% for adult occupant protection, 84% for child occupant protection, 78% for vulnerable road users (77% without DriveWise), and 78% for safety assist systems (67% without DriveWise). These results highlight the EV3’s robust safety features and its commitment to protecting both occupants and pedestrians.
A standout aspect of the EV3’s performance was its side impact protection, earning maximum points in the side barrier test. Additionally, Euro NCAP praised the vehicle’s standard driver status monitoring system and its advanced eCall emergency alert system, which automatically notifies emergency services in the event of a crash.
The DriveWise ADAS Pack enhances the EV3’s safety profile by incorporating a suite of advanced driver assistance features. Utilizing cameras and radar, these systems detect potential hazards and support safer driving and maneuvering, contributing significantly to the vehicle’s top-tier safety rating.
Pablo Martínez Masip, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Kia Europe, commented on the achievement, stating, “The EV3 is an amazingly versatile vehicle, able to adapt to a wide range of lifestyles, and this rating shows the vehicle is highly protective for the driver, passengers, and other road users.” He emphasized that the Euro NCAP rating is a testament to the EV3’s impressive reception among media, industry professionals, and customers alike.
Kia’s commitment to safety is further underscored by the EV3’s design and engineering. Built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV3 benefits from a rigid body structure and a comprehensive suite of safety technologies. This achievement aligns with Kia’s broader strategy to deliver electric vehicles that do not compromise on safety, performance, or innovation.
