Nissan has officially unveiled the sixth-generation MICRA, transforming its iconic compact car into a fully electric vehicle. Set to launch in Europe later this year, the new MICRA EV combines premium styling, practical innovation, and cutting-edge technology, aiming to meet the demands of modern urban drivers while embracing zero-emission mobility.

Bold Design Meets Urban Practicality

Designed at Nissan Design Europe in London, the MICRA EV features SUV-inspired styling, 18-inch wheels, sculpted surfaces, and striking light animations that greet and bid farewell to the driver. Iconic headlamps and ornate LED taillamps complete its expressive look. Customers can choose from up to 14 exterior colour combinations, including two-tone options with black or grey roofs.

Performance and Range Options

The MICRA EV will be available with two battery configurations: a 40kWh model offering a range of 191 miles and a 52kWh model providing up to 253 miles on a single charge. Both versions support fast charging capabilities, with the larger battery variant capable of charging from 15% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes using a 100kW DC fast charger.

Interior and Technology Enhancements

Inside, the MICRA EV boasts a refined interior with modern technology features, including two 10-inch screens and integrated Google Maps. The cabin is designed to offer comfort and connectivity, catering to the needs of contemporary drivers seeking both functionality and style.

Strategic Move Amid Financial Challenges

Nissan’s introduction of the MICRA EV comes at a time when the company is facing significant financial challenges, including projected losses and workforce reductions. By electrifying one of its most popular models, Nissan aims to revitalize its lineup and strengthen its position in the competitive EV market.

Legacy and Future Outlook

First launched in 1982, the MICRA has sold over six million units globally and has evolved through five generations, gaining a reputation for simplicity and appeal among young drivers. The transition to an all-electric MICRA marks a significant step in Nissan’s commitment to sustainable mobility and innovation.
