Tata Motors‘ upcoming electric SUV, the Harrier EV, has been spotted testing in Ladakh, indicating that the vehicle is undergoing high-altitude trials ahead of its anticipated launch later this year. The Harrier EV, based on Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture called Acti.ev, is expected to feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup, offering enhanced performance and stability.

The exterior design of the Harrier EV closely resembles its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart but includes EV-specific elements such as a closed-off grille, redesigned bumpers, and unique alloy wheels. The SUV is expected to offer a range of over 500 km on a single charge, with fast-charging capabilities that can add approximately 100 km of range in just 10 minutes using a 150 kW DC fast charger.

Inside, the Harrier EV is anticipated to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof with mood lighting. Additional features may include wireless phone charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate.

Safety is a priority for the Harrier EV, which is expected to come equipped with up to seven airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, electronic stability control (ESC), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

The Harrier EV is also likely to introduce innovative features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing the vehicle’s battery to charge external devices, and a ‘Summon Me’ mode, enabling the car to autonomously move forward or backward using the key fob.

With an expected starting price of around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tata Harrier EV will compete with other electric SUVs in the Indian market, such as the Mahindra XUV.e8 and BYD Atto 3. The launch of the Harrier EV marks Tata Motors’ continued commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio and offering advanced, feature-rich options to consumers.
