Hero MotoCorp is poised to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio with the launch of two new budget-friendly Vida electric scooters on July 1, 2025. These upcoming models aim to cater to the growing demand for affordable electric mobility solutions in India, directly competing with offerings from Ola Electric, TVS, and Ather.
The new scooters are expected to be priced below ₹1 lakh (ex-showroom), making them accessible to a broader segment of Indian consumers, including first-time buyers, students, and delivery personnel in urban and semi-urban areas. This strategic move aligns with Hero’s vision to democratize electric mobility and strengthen its presence in the rapidly evolving EV market.
Based on a modified version of the current V2 platform, the upcoming models—possibly named Vida VX2—are anticipated to feature a 2.2 kWh removable battery, offering an IDC range of approximately 94 km and a top speed of around 69 km/h. The scooters are designed with a minimalist approach, focusing on essential features to keep costs low, and are expected to appeal to users seeking practical and efficient transportation solutions.
A key highlight of these scooters is the inclusion of removable batteries, allowing users to charge them via standard 5-amp sockets at home. This feature addresses the challenge of limited access to public charging infrastructure, particularly in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, and supports Hero’s “Charging Simple Hai” campaign promoting convenient charging solutions.
The launch of these budget-friendly models is part of Hero MotoCorp’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the low-speed and cost-sensitive EV market. By leveraging its extensive sales and service network, Hero aims to offer a trusted alternative to lesser-known budget brands and accelerate EV adoption across diverse consumer segments.
With the introduction of these new scooters, Hero MotoCorp is set to intensify competition in the affordable EV segment, potentially sparking a new price war and making electric mobility more attainable for the masses. The company’s focus on affordability, practicality, and range anxiety relief positions it to make significant inroads into the budget EV category.
