Renault Kwid Electric Spotted Testing Ahead of 2026 India Launch

Renault ambitions in the Indian EV space took a visible turn as the electric version of its popular entry-level car, the Kwid, was spotted testing on Indian roads. Expected to launch by 2026, the Kwid EV is likely to play a key role in Renault’s strategy to offer affordable electric mobility in one of the world’s fastest-growing EV markets.

The test mule, heavily camouflaged, showcased a compact hatchback design similar to the current ICE Kwid, sparking speculation that the upcoming EV could be based on the Dacia Spring, already on sale in European markets. The vehicle is likely to be built on the CMF-A platform, offering a cost-effective base for localized production.

The Renault Kwid EV is expected to deliver a practical range of around 200–300 km on a single charge, suitable for daily urban use. While technical specifications remain under wraps, reports suggest it will feature a modest electric motor and fast-charging capabilities to meet the expectations of Indian buyers looking for an entry-level EV.

This move aligns with Renault’s previously announced plans to introduce multiple EVs in India by mid-decade. The company aims to expand its EV portfolio while working toward cost optimization through local sourcing and partnerships. The Kwid EV will likely be the first among the new line-up, followed by more models catering to budget and mass-market segments.

India’s growing EV demand, supported by government subsidies under FAME-II and state-level incentives, has created a strong foundation for affordable electric vehicles. Renault appears to be capitalizing on this momentum, positioning the Kwid EV as a rival to upcoming models from Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki in the compact EV space.

With testing now underway, the Renault Kwid Electric is shaping up to be a key player in India’s affordable EV revolution. If priced aggressively under ₹10 lakh, the Kwid EV could redefine mass adoption and strengthen Renault’s footprint in the rapidly evolving Indian EV market.
