Audi has unveiled a significant, China-specific product initiative aimed at diversifying its presence in the world’s largest automotive market. The lineup comprises a series of new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) alongside advanced internal combustion engine (ICE) models, all designed to meet the distinct needs of Chinese consumers and strengthen the brand’s local footprint.
This move reflects Audi’s long-term commitment to maintaining a dual-track strategy expanding electric mobility while continuing to offer efficient combustion solutions suited to varying customer preferences in China’s evolving auto market.
The newly introduced electric models are built on Audi’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and produced locally at the Audi FAW NEV Company’s advanced facility in Changchun. These models include the Q6L e-tron and Q6L Sportback e-tron, which offer an extended wheelbase and a China-tailored digital interior experience. A China-specific version of the A6L e-tron has also been unveiled.
On the combustion front, Audi introduced the A5L sedan and A5L Sportback, both developed on the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). These models deliver a combination of dynamic performance and enhanced efficiency, featuring state-of-the-art driver assistance features. The A5L launched commercially on August 7, 2025, followed by the availability of the A5L Sportback from August 1.
At the same time, Audi has also begun production of its E5 Sportback EV, the inaugural model under its China-exclusive “AUDI” brand (note: stylised in all caps, and notably without the iconic four-ring logo). Built on the Advanced Digitised Platform developed jointly with SAIC—the E5 Sportback boasts high-end tech integration including LiDAR, radar, multiple cameras, and Nvidia Orin X-powered autonomous and infotainment systems. Available in several variants, its pricing in China ranges from RMB 235,900 to RMB 319,900, with deliveries expected to start in September 2025.
Industry observers view this strategic expansion as Audi’s intensified localization push. By offering tailor-made platforms and models, the brand seeks to better align with Chinese consumers’ demands for both advanced electric mobility and refined combustion options, underlining its adaptability amid China’s rapidly shifting automotive landscape.
