BMW has unveiled its next-generation iX3 electric SUV the first model built on the automakers new “Neue Klasse” platform marking a pivotal step in its shift toward electrification, digitalisation and sustainability. The debut took place at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, spotlighting BMW’s ambitious technology leap.

The iX3 50 xDrive delivers a projected range of up to 805 km (500 miles) under the WLTP cycle and around 400 miles by EPA estimates. Thanks to an 800-volt architecture and 400 kW peak charging capacity, it can add over 370 km (230 miles) of range in just 10 minutes.

Under the skin, the SUV features BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system that produces 345 kW (469 hp) of power and up to 645 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 4.9 seconds. It also integrates four advanced high-performance computers—including the “Heart of Joy”—for streamlined driving dynamics and software-defined operation.

The interior ushers in a clean new design language with the debut of BMW’s “Panoramic iDrive” system. It combines a sweeping panoramic projection display—up to 43 inches on the windshield—with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, blending minimalism with driver-centric controls and over-the-air update capabilities.

BMW emphasized the iX3’s eco credentials: the Debrecen plant in Hungary where it will be built operates without fossil fuels in normal conditions, and recycled materials account for a significant share of its construction. The vehicle’s life-cycle carbon footprint is reportedly reduced by more than 30%.

Production of the iX3 will begin later in 2025, with European deliveries starting in spring 2026 and U.S. deliveries following in summer. BMW has priced the model at approximately €68,900 (about $80,700) in Europe, with U.S. prices starting around $60,000. Additional variants, including entry-level and long-wheelbase models for the Chinese market, are expected in future.
