In a move that could accelerate India’s shift away from diesel generators, Voltide Solutions and JEM Energy have launched a Made-in-India Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)-as-a-Service model for commercial and hospitality spaces. The first deployment is now operational at Uru Brewpark in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar, making it among the early premium hospitality venues in India to replace conventional diesel backup with silent, emission-free battery storage.
Spread across 1.5 acres, Uru Brewpark transitioned to a battery-based backup system under an OPEX-led model that removes the need for large upfront capital investment. During its first month of commissioning, the system delivered over 2.5 MWh of clean backup energy while operating through peak summer temperatures, hailstorms, and grid disturbances. The deployment helped reduce nearly 1,000 litres of diesel consumption.
The partnership combines JEM Energy’s India-built battery storage technology with Voltide Solutions’ Battery-as-a-Service delivery model, enabling businesses to adopt clean backup power without owning or managing the infrastructure. The companies say the platform is designed for multiple sectors, including hospitality, commercial real estate, warehousing, healthcare, manufacturing, and EV infrastructure applications.
“For us, customer experience is central to everything we do. Replacing noisy diesel generators with silent battery-based backup power has significantly improved the ambience and operational efficiency of the venue,” said Kuncheria Marattukalam, Co-founder of Uru Brewpark.
Uday Disley, Director at Voltide Solutions, added, “The real breakthrough here is making BESS adoption frictionless for businesses by offering clean backup energy as a service instead of requiring heavy upfront investment.”
Annual savings from the deployment are projected to reach up to INR 6.25 lakh.
Kartik Hajela, CEO of JEM Energy, said the deployment reflects how battery energy storage is becoming commercially viable for Indian businesses. “What has historically slowed adoption is not the technology, but the financing model. Through this partnership, we are combining advanced Made-in-India energy storage technology with an accessible commercial structure that allows businesses to transition away from diesel immediately,”.
