E.ON, Tank & Rast Build 195 Electric Truck Charging Points Germany

Germany is set to strengthen its electric truck charging infrastructure after E.ON and Tank & Rast were awarded a contract under the Deutschlandnetz initiative to develop a nationwide charging network for heavy-duty electric vehicles. The project will see the installation of 195 charging points across 24 motorway locations, supporting the country’s transition to zero-emission freight transport.

The charging network will include 101 Megawatt Charging System (MCS) charging points, designed to enable ultra-fast charging for battery-electric trucks. In addition, the rollout will feature 32 CCS charging points with up to 400 kW output and 62 CCS charging points with up to 150 kW capacity, providing flexible charging options for different truck operating requirements.

The project is part of Germany’s federally supported Deutschlandnetz programme, which aims to expand reliable charging infrastructure for electric commercial vehicles along major transport corridors. E.ON and Tank & Rast will jointly develop and operate the charging sites, with both companies contributing their expertise in energy solutions and motorway services.

The new charging hubs are expected to support long-haul freight operations by allowing electric trucks to recharge during scheduled driver breaks. The combination of megawatt and high-power charging technology is intended to improve charging accessibility and help accelerate the adoption of battery-electric trucks across Germany.

Construction of the charging sites is scheduled to begin in phases, with the first locations expected to become operational from 2027. Once completed, the network will enhance Germany’s public charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles and support the growing demand for zero-emission logistics.

The initiative marks another important milestone in Germany’s efforts to expand EV charging infrastructure for commercial transport. By increasing the availability of high-capacity charging stations along key motorway routes, the project is expected to improve operational efficiency for electric truck fleets while supporting the country’s broader sustainable mobility goals.
