CATL is strengthening its presence in Brazil’s energy storage market through a strategic partnership with Brazilian battery manufacturer Moura. The partnership was announced at The Smarter E South America 2026 in São Paulo, where CATL showcased its full energy storage ecosystem, covering battery cell research and development, energy management, project delivery, and localized services. The companies will jointly participate in Brazil’s Capacity Reserve Auction for Energy Storage (LRCAP 2026), supporting the country’s growing focus on reliable and flexible energy infrastructure.

At the event, CATL presented its TENER S energy storage system, designed for large-scale applications and long-term performance. The system offers zero degradation in capacity and power during its first year of a 20-year design life. Its liquid-cooling technology can reduce auxiliary power consumption by up to 20%, while its areal energy density is increased by 30% and site footprint reduced by 20%. These features are aimed at improving operating efficiency and supporting renewable energy integration in Brazil.

CATL also showcased the TENER H system for utility-scale and industrial and commercial applications. The system uses 575 Ah cells and can deliver up to 9,008 kWh of energy storage capacity in a single container. According to CATL, it can improve land utilization by 45% and supports 2-, 4-, and 8-hour configurations. The 4- and 8-hour versions can achieve up to 96% round-trip efficiency, making the system suitable for applications requiring longer-duration energy storage.

Another highlight was the first presentation of CATL’s TENER Sodium energy storage system in Brazil. The integrated sodium-ion system offers 30 MWh of capacity, a 20-year design life, and 95% round-trip efficiency. It can operate across temperatures ranging from -20°C to 45°C and carries IEC, UL, and CE certifications. The system combines sodium-ion battery technology with coordinated battery management, power conversion, and thermal management systems to support reliable energy storage operations.

The partnership with Moura is aimed at combining CATL’s energy storage technology with local market expertise. The companies will work toward participation in Brazil’s LRCAP 2026, with support from another strategic partner that holds the leading market share in PCS and inverters in Brazil. The partners are also targeting localized production that meets the auction’s local-content requirements. CATL said it currently has a 45% share of Brazil’s energy storage market, with projects covering utility transmission, agriculture, cold-chain logistics, and industrial facilities.

CATL is also expanding its local support capabilities across South America. Its regional service network includes more than 140 certified engineers and five senior energy storage experts, supported by remote assistance, on-site service, regional spare-parts inventory, technical training, and recycling services. The company’s Brazil strategy builds on the Registro Energy Storage Project, which became Brazil’s first utility-scale battery energy storage system in the transmission sector in 2022. With new storage technologies, local partnerships, and lifecycle support, CATL aims to strengthen its role in Brazil’s evolving energy storage market.
