Toyota Motor Corporation announced that it has acquired certification under the government’s ‘Supply Assurance Plan for Batteries’ from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for its plans to expand and manufacture next-generation batteries, involving presentation and all-solid-state batteries.

The accreditation applies to the following three industries: (1) next-generation performance battery producer Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc. (PPES); (2) battery manufacturer Primearth EV Energy Co. Ltd. (PEVE); and (3) research and development as well as production of all-solid-state battery.

METI’s ‘Initiatives to Ensure a Stable Supply of Batteries,’ which are based on the Economic Security Promotion Act, aim to improve Japan’s infrastructure for the production of batteries, with a focus on key components, battery cells, and manufacturing tools. The battery industry requires significant equipment investments, and government support is critical to preserve and grow Japan’s production capacity.

By leading battery innovation and manufacturing domestically, Toyota aims to advance the industry, strengthen the infrastructure enabling battery production, increase the competitiveness of electrified vehicles, and pursue carbon neutrality through a number of strategies.
