With longtime partner JB Hunt, Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is extending the reach of its electric semi fleet into Arizona after successfully implementing inbound programs in the Pacific Northwest, North Carolina, and Mexico.
The new Freightliner eCascadia electric semi will be added by JB Hunt to its fleet in Arizona right away. It will be used to transport aftermarket truck parts from DTNA’s parts distribution center (PDC) in Phoenix to various DTNA dealers via a specially designed route.
The electric Freightliner truck will travel around 100 miles in a single day and then return ‘ome’ to Daimler’s Phoenix factory, where a Detroit eFill charger is situated.
With the first all-electric route in the DTNA aftermarket parts distribution network, this milestone lowers carbon emissions significantly and establishes a standard for future environmentally friendly outbound logistics operations.
Greer Woodruff, executive vice president of safety, sustainability, and maintenance at JB Hunt, says, “This solution with DTNA is a great example of our commitment to supporting customers’ efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and work towards energy transition.” He went on, “Our drivers have had a great time in the taxi, and JB Hunt owns and runs other eCascadias on behalf of clients. We are here to support customers in their quest for a more sustainable supply chain as their interest grows in the most cost-effective way.”
In order to electrify more routes and lessen the carbon footprint of its logistics operations, Daimler is now examining potential future expansions in its internal parts distribution and logistics.
In order to eventually enable fully integrated zero-emission vehicle solutions within its 3PL fleets, JB Hunt will assess how it uses the charging station for other local customers.
