In a written response to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar stated that as of February 2 of this year, there were 12,146 electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the country.

According to the minister’s data, Maharashtra leads the pack with 3,079 EV charging stations, followed by Delhi with 1,886 and Karnataka in third position with 1,041.

The top three states are followed by the top 10 states of Kerala (852), Tamil Nadu (643), Uttar Pradesh (582), Rajasthan (500), Telangana (481), Gujarat (476), and Madhya Pradesh (341).

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has been diligently promoting EVs in India. In order to increase the confidence of EV customers, the minister stated that the FAME-II plan, among other things, offered financial support in the form of subsidies for the construction of public charging stations.

To speed up the country’s development of public EV charging infrastructure, the Ministry of Power has also taken a number of actions.

Government regulations and standards for charging infrastructure have made it possible for EV drivers to charge their cars at home or at work using their existing electrical connections.

A revenue-sharing framework for the distribution of land at promotional rates for public charging stations has also been introduced, in addition to regulations for providing electrical connections to PCS within certain timeframes.

Furthermore, public charging stations must charge a single-part electric vehicle (EV) price set by the government; this amount cannot exceed the Average Cost of Supply (ACoS) until March 31, 2025.

At PCS, the maximum electricity usage for slow AC charging of EVs during solar and non-solar hours is Rs 2.50 and Rs 3.50 per unit, respectively, in accordance with the requirements.

Additionally, PCS has set a ceiling of Rs 10 per unit for DC fast charging of EVs during solar hours and Rs 12 per unit during non-solar hours.

The average cost of supply (ACoS) that DISCOMs offer to PCSs will be discounted by 20% during solar hours and will be premium by 20% at all other times.

To further accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and ensure that everyone has access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly electricity, the minister announced that the Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, have been notified.
