GLVAC Kunshan The second-largest manufacturer of automotive fasteners in India, Sterling Tools Limited, has teamed with Yuantong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (GLVAC YT). Through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited, Sterling Tools hopes to localize the production of advanced High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) contactors and relays in India. These parts are essential for regulating current flow in hybrid and electric vehicles.
Sterling Tools projects that this partnership might generate roughly Rs. 250 crore by FY30. To complement this, the company plans to construct a new production facility in Bengaluru, which is likely to cost around Rs. 40 crore. In addition to helping to replace imports, this plant will produce and assemble HVDC contactors and relays, supporting India’s Made in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. By manufacturing these components in-house, Sterling Tools aims to establish a regional ecosystem for the electric and hybrid vehicle sectors while supplying Indian OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and other companies with state-of-the-art technology.
Important parts of electric and hybrid cars are HVDC contactors and relays, which regulate high-voltage electricity between the battery, motor controller or inverter, and other power systems. By controlling current flow and offering isolation, these parts improve operating efficiency and safety while lowering the risk of electrical failures, fires, or explosions.
The director of Sterling Tools Limited, Anish Agarwal, emphasized the significance of incorporating cutting-edge safety features into the growing markets for electric and hybrid vehicles. He emphasized Sterling Tools’ dedication to enhancing EV and HEV system safety. He went on to say that the new Bengaluru facility’s production of HVDC contactors and relays will increase the availability and affordability of these parts for Indian OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.
India is a significant market, according to Li Qinghua, General Manager at GLVAC YT, who also noted that the collaboration with Sterling Tools supports the nation’s efforts to promote electric mobility. The cooperation intends to supply premium EV components to the Indian market by fusing Sterling’s manufacturing skills with GLVAC’s technical know-how, thereby promoting a sustainable future for the EV sector.
In order to enhance India’s EV supply chain and lessen its need on imports, Sterling Tools intends to expand local production of electrical systems and electric vehicle components through its subsidiary, Sterling Tech-Mobility. This agreement puts both businesses in a position to take advantage of new prospects in green transportation, as the Indian EV industry is predicted to grow rapidly.
