In an effort to promote the faster uptake and penetration of zero emission vehicles, the central government plans to transition its own fleet of transportation vehicles to electric vehicles.

They will try to encourage government purchase of EVs, Prime Minister’s office advisor Tarun Kapoor said at the FICCI National Conference on Electric Vehicles.

The federal government will also provide interest-free loans to states to assist them in electrifying their government fleets.

As the number of electric cars, buses, and two-wheelers on the road rises, Kapoor added, “the government also wants to concentrate on advancing this sector so that we become a global manufacturing hub.”

He also underlined the need to lower the goods and services tax (GST) on EV batteries and charging infrastructure in order to increase EV adoption in the country.

The government also wants all ambulances in the country to be electrified.

The Prime Minister said ambulances should be changed. I requested some top-notch ambulances from the sector. Thus, the government would allocate funding in that particular location, he continued.

To boost the country’s EV adoption, the government is now working on several projects.

Earlier this month, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal urged industry players to guarantee a smooth transition to electric mobility in order to accomplish India’s goal of having all of its vehicles be electric.
