Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the Adani Group, has launched India’s first hydrogen-powered truck dedicated to mining logistics in Chhattisgarh. The vehicle, capable of carrying up to 40 tonnes of cargo, was flagged off by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in Raipur. It is set to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III Block to the state’s power plant.
Developed in collaboration with Indian and international energy technology firms and a major auto manufacturer, the hydrogen fuel cell truck features smart technology and three hydrogen tanks. It offers a driving range of over 200 kilometers on a single hydrogen refill, matching the performance of conventional diesel trucks while emitting only water vapor and warm air.
The initiative aims to gradually replace diesel vehicles in Adani’s logistics operations, promoting cleaner transportation and reducing carbon emissions. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are known for their zero harmful emissions and minimal noise, making them a sustainable alternative for heavy-duty logistics.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted the state’s commitment to sustainability during the launch event. He stated that such initiatives would significantly reduce the state’s carbon footprint and set new standards for the industry.
The hydrogen-powered truck project is a joint effort between Adani Natural Resources and Adani New Industries Limited, both operating under Adani Enterprises. While Adani Natural Resources focuses on mining and logistics, Adani New Industries Limited supplies the hydrogen fuel cells and is also engaged in the production of green hydrogen, wind turbines, solar panels, and batteries.
This development aligns with India’s goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2070 and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. By introducing hydrogen-powered trucks in mining logistics, Adani Enterprises is contributing to the country’s broader environmental objectives and setting a precedent for sustainable practices in the industrial sector.
