Alpine, the performance brand under the Renault Group, has officially introduced its first electric SUV, the A390. This debut marks Alpine’s strategic entry into the competitive electric performance SUV segment, positioning the A390 as a direct rival to models like the Porsche Macan Electric and Tesla Model Y Performance. The A390 is the second model in Alpine’s “Dream Garage” lineup, following the A290 hot hatch.
The A390 features a sleek fastback design, measuring 4.62 meters in length and 1.53 meters in height, placing it between a traditional SUV and a hatchback. Its aerodynamic profile is accentuated by a coupe-like roofline and integrated rear door handles. The front fascia showcases triangular LED elements, while the rear is distinguished by a light bar bisected by an illuminated Alpine logo. This design approach integrates Alpine’s sports car heritage into a more practical five-door format.
Under the hood, the A390 offers a tri-motor setup—one motor at the front and two at the rear—providing all-wheel drive with Alpine’s Active Torque Vectoring system. The GT variant delivers 400 hp and 650 Nm of torque, achieving 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. The GTS variant increases output to 470 hp and 808 Nm, reducing the 0–100 km/h sprint to 3.9 seconds. This configuration enhances cornering agility and responsiveness by overspeeding the outer wheels in turns.
Inside, the A390 offers a driver-focused cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen running Android Automotive OS. Physical controls are retained for essential functions, and premium materials like Nappa leather and Alcantara enhance the cabin’s ambiance. The GTS variant adds Sabelt-designed bucket seats with heating, massage, and electric adjustments.
The A390 is equipped with an 89 kWh battery developed by Verkor, offering a WLTP range of up to 555 km on 20-inch wheels. DC fast charging at up to 190 kW allows a 15–80% charge in approximately 25 minutes. The vehicle also supports bidirectional charging and features a heat pump for efficient thermal management.
Production of the A390 will take place at Alpine’s historic factory in Dieppe, France. Sales are set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with UK pricing starting from around £60,000. Alpine’s expansion into the electric SUV market reflects a broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and appeal to a wider customer base.
The A390’s introduction signifies Alpine’s commitment to blending performance with practicality in the electric vehicle market. As the brand continues to develop its “Dream Garage” lineup, the A390 stands as a testament to Alpine’s ability to adapt its sports car legacy to contemporary automotive trends.
