One of the top tyre manufacturers, Apollo Tyres, has created tyres using 75% sustainable materials. At Apollo Tyres’ Perambra plant in Kerala, which also serves as the business’s first manufacturing facility, the concept Agri tyre was created.
This move the company says is aligned with its sustainability roadmap of increasing the usage of sustainable raw materials to 40 percent by 2030.
Nine featured compounding ingredients are found in various parts of the concept tyres, which have 75% sustainable materials. This includes recycled nylon, bead wire processed with a higher recycled content, bio-based oil, recycled rubber, sustainable carbon black from end-of-life tyres, and recycled rubber. This tire’s base polymers, which are GPSNR certified, are derived from feedstock with a circular economy.
This is a significant turning point in Apollo Tyres’ journey towards sustainability, according to P K Mohamed, Chief Advisor, R&D. We were able to develop this tyre with 75% sustainable materials after being early adopters in this field, particularly in India, and investing in R&D and manufacturing to meet the target of 40% sustainable materials by 2030. It is currently undergoing extensive testing before going on sale.
