Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal unveiled Convergence Energy Services Limited’s (CESL) “EV as a Service” concept at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. CESL is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The program is a significant step in increasing the usage of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Central and State Governments’ ministries, departments, CPSEs, and institutions.

CESL’s plan intends to deploy 5,000 electric vehicles over the next two years in order to meet the growing demand for EVs in the government sector. The program’s flexible procurement technique allows government offices to choose from a range of EV brands and models based on their operational needs. This would boost the government’s environmental sustainability goals and help India achieve its ambitious goal of having net-zero emissions by 2070.

CESL has already made great progress, with approximately 2,000 electric cars currently in operation worldwide and 17,000 electric buses planned. The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions, increase India’s energy security, and decrease its reliance on fossil fuels. Shri Manohar Lal praised CESL’s efforts, pointing out that the project is a shining example of sustainable innovation and will hasten India’s transition to more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

With an incredible electric vehicle display and an EV parade with more than 100 electric vehicles, the first event featured a range of e-mobility solutions. These included electric trucks, electric buses, electric freight pickups, electric tractors, electric mobile charging vans, electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, electric four-wheelers, and electric bicycles. Representatives from several ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Revenue, and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, attended the event together with EV manufacturers, think tanks, and enthusiasts.
