The Climate Pledge, an allied project between Amazon and Global Optimism, has unveiled Joint Operation merging Last-mile Electrification (JOULE), a new project. With the help of $2.65 million in financing, Bengaluru, the revolution hub of India, will soon have a web of collective EV charging stations that operate wholly on renewable energy. At Doddakallasandra, the first charging station is presently elevated and operating.

JOULE wants to support more than 5,500 electric vehicles by 2030 and eliminate the infrastructure gaps that have prevented business fleets from adopting EVs. Prominent industry participants will support the project, including Greenko, a renewable energy generator, and Kazam, who will construct the charging station network. By 2030, the project is anticipated to save about 11.2 million liters of fuel and cut carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 25,700 tons. The initiative is expected to create 185 full-time jobs in Bengaluru between 2024 and 2030.

Among the businesses that have committed to reducing carbon emissions are Amazon, Mahindra Logistics, Uber, HCLTech, and Magenta Mobility. To get the most out of the infrastructure for their fleet operations, they will take full advantage of these EV charging stations.

Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, commented, “JOULE helps us reach our objective of having 10,000 EVs in India by 2025. Being a part of this project to increase Bengaluru’s charging infrastructure makes us proud.”

The JOULE effort seeks to accomplish net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement’s target, by building on Amazon’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
