In a fresh push to boost eco-friendly tourism, the Delhi Transport Department is set to launch guided city tours on electric buses beginning September 2025. The initiative aims to showcase the capital’s iconic heritage while promoting green mobility across the city.
These guided electric bus tours will be operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and will cover key landmarks such as India Gate, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Lotus Temple. Tourists will be offered curated experiences with professional guides onboard, making the journeys both informative and sustainable.
Officials revealed that the electric buses will be equipped with audio-visual systems and multilingual support to enhance the tour experience for both domestic and international visitors. Special emphasis will be placed on historical storytelling and cultural insights.
Each tour will last approximately three to four hours and operate in two shifts—morning and evening—to allow flexibility. The government is also planning to introduce combo packages including entry tickets to monuments, meals, and souvenir kits for added convenience.
This initiative is part of Delhi’s larger strategy to electrify public transport and position itself as a green tourism destination. The move also aligns with the capital’s climate action goals and efforts to reduce vehicular pollution in popular tourist zones.
With a fleet of e-buses already in operation, Delhi hopes to become a model for integrating clean transport with tourism. Authorities expect strong participation from travel agencies and hospitality partners once the service officially rolls out in September.
