The Delhi government has unveiled its EV Policy 2.0, aiming for 95% of all new vehicle registrations to be electric by 2027. This ambitious initiative includes phasing out CNG vehicles, including autos and taxis, and replacing them with electric alternatives to boost sustainability.
Incentives and Charging Infrastructure Expansion
The policy proposes several incentives for electric vehicles, including purchase benefits for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and e-buses. It also plans to expand public charging infrastructure, ensuring new buildings and public spaces are equipped with charging stations, alongside private sector support for charging networks.
Job Creation and Skill Development
Beyond infrastructure, the policy emphasizes job creation and skill development through the Delhi Skill & Entrepreneurship University. Training programs will focus on EV servicing, battery management, and other critical areas to support the growing electric vehicle ecosystem.
Dedicated Funding and Regulatory Measures
A State EV Fund will be established, financed through green levies and pollution cess, to support the policy’s financial requirements. Stricter regulatory measures will ensure smooth implementation, particularly in the commercial transport sector, as the city moves toward electrification.
A Long-Term Strategy for a Greener Future
Replacing the existing 2020 EV policy, the 2.0 version lays a long-term plan for electric mobility in Delhi. With a focus on infrastructure, incentives, and regulatory enforcement, the policy aims to position Delhi as a leader in India’s electric vehicle revolution, contributing to cleaner air and sustainable urban transport.
