In a move to accelerate Germany’s transition to electric mobility, E.ON and the German Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA) have announced plans to install 7,000 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers across federal properties by 2027. The initiative will provide charging stations for government fleets and employees, as well as visitors, with a focus on supporting the electrification of federal vehicles.
The project will see a mix of DC fast chargers, AC chargers, and wallboxes installed at various locations, with each setup customized to meet the specific needs of users and parking durations. E.ON will manage the installation, operation, and maintenance of these stations, ensuring that all chargers run on 100% renewable energy.
Brigitte Bourscheidt, head of Facility Management at BImA, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in driving climate protection. “Electric mobility is vital to the energy transition,” she stated. “This project will help meet the increasing demand for charging points from our users, enabling the optimal support of fleets while also contributing to sustainability.”
The new charging infrastructure will also incorporate smart charging systems, allowing for efficient load management. Priority will be given to essential vehicles, such as those used in emergencies or company fleets, while guest users may experience temporary reductions in charging power to maintain balance across the network. This system aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and seamlessly integrate with the federal energy grid.
