Chinese auto giant FAW Group has officially launched its compact electric car, the Bestune Pony EV, at an attractive price of just RMB 35,900 (approximately $4,950). This marks the debut of the smallest model under FAW’s Bestune brand, directly targeting young urban commuters and budget-conscious EV buyers.
The Bestune Pony EV is available in two color options white and green with a compact body length of 3,000 mm and a two-door, two-seat layout. Designed for short-distance city travel, the car features a trapezoidal grille, circular headlights, and a unique two-tone paint scheme, giving it a stylish, modern aesthetic that aligns with Gen Z sensibilities.
Inside, the interior follows a minimalist approach, highlighted by a 10.25-inch central screen and touch-sensitive buttons. The vehicle offers 4G connectivity, Bluetooth key access, and remote monitoring via smartphone app, enabling users to check vehicle status and control functions remotely. This reflects FAW’s commitment to integrating smart tech into its entry-level EVs.
Powering the Pony EV is a 20 kW motor delivering 85 Nm of torque, coupled with a 9.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The model promises a CLTC range of 122 km, catering effectively to daily commutes and short urban drives. The top speed is limited to 100 km/h, keeping it safe for city traffic conditions.
FAW aims to position the Pony EV as an affordable, smart alternative for inner-city drivers, students, and new EV adopters. By offering basic smart features and connected mobility at a sub-$5,000 price point, the brand is making strides in reshaping the budget EV market in China.
With the launch of the Bestune Pony EV, FAW further strengthens its role in promoting green transportation across different consumer segments. The company appears committed to democratizing EV ownership, combining affordability, urban practicality, and digital features into a compact, cost-effective solution.
