Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari has announced plans to unveil its first fully electric vehicle (EV) in a phased approach, starting with a technological showcase on October 9, 2025, during the company’s capital markets day. The world premiere of the new EV model is scheduled for spring 2026, with sales commencing in October 2026, according to CEO Benedetto Vigna.

The upcoming EV, reportedly named the Ferrari Elettrica, represents a significant shift for the Italian automaker, traditionally known for its high-performance petrol engines. The vehicle is expected to be priced at a minimum of €500,000 (approximately ₹4.5 crore), excluding additional customization options that could increase the final cost by 15–20%.

Production of the Elettrica will take place at Ferrari’s newly inaugurated e-building facility in Maranello, Italy. This state-of-the-art plant is designed to enhance manufacturing flexibility and reduce development times, accommodating the production of electric, hybrid, and traditional combustion-engine models.

Ferrari’s entry into the EV market comes amid a broader industry shift toward electrification. The company has outlined an ambitious strategy to have 80% of its vehicles be either hybrid or fully electric by 2030. Currently, hybrid models account for approximately 51% of Ferrari’s sales, reflecting a growing consumer interest in electrified performance vehicles.

Despite the high price point, Ferrari is confident in the demand for its electric offerings, targeting high-net-worth individuals seeking sustainable yet high-performance vehicles. Analysts predict that the Elettrica will contribute to over 10% of Ferrari’s annual sales, helping the company maintain strong profit margins amid the costly development of new electric technologies.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Ferrari’s foray into electric vehicles signifies a commitment to innovation while preserving the brand’s legacy of performance and exclusivity. The launch of the Elettrica is poised to set a new benchmark in the luxury EV segment, blending cutting-edge technology with the marque’s iconic design and engineering prowess.
