In a groundbreaking effort to support the growing trend toward electric vehicles (EVs), Ford Pro and Southern Company have launched a six-month pilot program to offer a holistic electrification plan for businesses in the southeastern United States.
Due to rising gasoline prices and the possibility for lower overall expenses associated with EV ownership, more than 100,000 EVs have been registered in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. In response to this trend, Ford ProTM and Southern Company, a leading energy provider to over 587,000 businesses in Atlanta, are working together to optimize EV adoption strategies for commercial fleets.
The pilot program will deploy more than 200 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks and more than 150 Ford Pro Chargers, including state-of-the-art Level 2 AC and Level 3 DC chargers, among Southern Company subsidiaries. The alliance will focus on improving fleet charging practices, boosting vehicle uptime, and reducing total costs of ownership.
The comprehensive data gathering and analytics offered by Ford Pro Intelligence1 and Ford Pro Charging Software will be extremely beneficial to the project. Particularly during times of peak demand, these techniques will help optimize energy use through demand response curtailment strategies. The pilot will enable Southern Company help its commercial and industrial clients convert to electric vehicles (EVs) and enhance fleet management.
