General Motors has unveiled a new initiative through GM Energy to integrate electric vehicles (EVs) into home energy systems, offering both public and home charging solutions, along with bidirectional power capabilities for enhanced energy independence.
GM Energy is set to enhance U.S. charging infrastructure, providing access to over 231,000 charging ports, including nearly 50,000 DC fast chargers. Collaborations with EVgo, ChargePoint, and Pilot Flying J will add thousands of new fast-charging stations to facilitate long-distance EV travel. Additionally, GM EV owners can now access over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger locations via a NACS adapter.
The home charging solutions from GM Energy include the PowerShift charger and V2H Enablement Kit, allowing EVs to power homes during outages. The GM Energy Home System also includes stationary battery storage through the GM Energy PowerBank, which can store up to 35.4 kWh, offering backup power for up to 20 hours.
