The introduction of its battery-swapping ecosystem and Smartscooters in India has been announced by Gogoro Inc., a global leader in battery-swapping technology for sustainable urban mobility. The CrossOver GX250, the company’s first Smartscooter manufactured in India, is being unveiled. The company plans to expand its services to Mumbai and Pune in early 2024, with a focus on B2B clients in Delhi and Goa. In the second quarter of the same year, the company hopes to make its services available to consumers.
The creator and CEO of Gogoro, Horace Luke, emphasized the enormous potential for change in urban mobility around the world, especially in India with its enormous population of motorcycles and mopeds. He underlined that the CrossOver GX250 epitomizes the brand’s values since it was designed with Indian riders in mind and has more ground clearance, storage, and seats.
A new all-terrain frame for increased rigidity and comfort is a characteristic of the CrossOver series, which includes the GX250, CrossOver 50, and CrossOver S. The series provides flexibility in terms of riding, storing, and personalization. The remaining versions are anticipated to ship later in 2024, with the GX250 being available now.
Made in Maharashtra, India, the CrossOver GX250 has the highest ground clearance in Gogoro’s portfolio and a robust all-terrain frame that provides increased rigidity to suit Indian conditions. With a 2.5 kW Direct Drive, it can reach a maximum speed of more than 60 kph and a range of 111 km. The frame of the scooter maintains comfort and stability while supporting heavier loads and improving suspension durability. The GX250’s design offers plenty of storage, including 26 locking compartments, to meet different riding needs.
In August, the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified the CrossOver GX250. Gogoro was the first foreign two-wheel OEM approved for EV financing schemes by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) in November.
Luke also mentioned Gogoro’s goal of using an open, safe, and scalable battery-swapping network to promote a widespread market transition to sustainable energy in densely populated cities. India has seen a significant demand for Gogoro’s battery-swapping, Smartscooter, and technology solutions, and the company is keen to begin conducting business with a number of partners. Luke pointed out that the adoption of intelligent, sustainable electric mobility by last-mile delivery riders, who commute six times more frequently than consumer riders, can have a substantial positive impact on city sustainability.
