In a significant boost to India’s electric mobility push, top two-wheeler giants Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, and TVS Motor are preparing to launch a new wave of affordable electric scooters. These offerings are aimed at making electric two-wheelers more accessible to the mass market, as demand for budget-friendly EV options continues to rise.

Industry sources have confirmed that all three manufacturers are in advanced stages of development and are likely to introduce their low-cost electric models within the next few months. The pricing of these new e-scooters is expected to be in the range of ₹50,000–₹60,000, targeting the largest segment of the Indian two-wheeler market currently dominated by petrol-powered scooters.

Hero MotoCorp is reportedly working on a new product under its VIDA brand, focusing on an economical platform. Bajaj Auto, which already retails the Chetak EV, is looking to expand with a new variant that caters to price-sensitive buyers. TVS Motor, having found success with its iQube line-up, is now aiming to launch a compact and affordable model that broadens its customer base.

According to estimates, over 65% of the two-wheeler market in India falls in the price bracket of under ₹80,000. The move by these leading players is likely to spark rapid growth in electric scooter adoption, which still accounts for just a small fraction of total two-wheeler sales in the country.

The introduction of low-cost EVs by mainstream brands is expected to disrupt the current market scenario, which has so far seen a surge in startups offering budget EVs. Backed by trusted brand value, service networks, and economies of scale, these new entries could significantly raise the competitiveness in the segment.

This development aligns with the Indian government’s push for cleaner transportation solutions and lower dependence on fossil fuels. With these launches, Hero, Bajaj, and TVS are not just chasing market share but also leading the charge towards a more sustainable future in personal mobility.
