Hero MotoCorp has officially halted the production and sales of its flagship Mavrick 440 motorcycle in India after just 18 months on the market. Dealers have reportedly stopped accepting new bookings due to sharply dwindling consumer interest.
Launched amid much fanfare, the Mavrick 440 was built on the platform of the Harley‑Davidson X440 and priced between ₹1.99 lakh and ₹2.24 lakh (ex-showroom). It was the most expensive and powerful bike ever launched by Hero.
Despite its premium positioning and modern feature set, the response remained underwhelming: only 3,214 units were sold in the first nine months of FY2024–25, and there have reportedly been zero units sold in the last three months prior to cancellation.
Under the hood, the Mavrick 440 used a 440 cc single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine, producing 27 bhp and 36 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox with slip-and-assist clutch. It featured a neo-retro roadster design, LED lighting, and digital LCD connectivity.
However, the bike lacked key upgrades. Critics pointed out that it retained telescopic forks (instead of more premium USD units) and an LCD display rather than a TFT cluster, which limited its appeal against rivals and sibling models.
With Mavrick discontinued, Hero appears to be focusing investments on its Harley‑Davidson partnership. A new Harley-branded 440cc model under the “Nightster 440” name is reportedly in the works, potentially filling the void left by Mavrick in India’s premium motorcycle segment.
The abrupt discontinuation of the Mavrick underscores the challenges Hero faced in the premium 400cc+ segment, particularly in gaining traction among aspirational buyers. Hero now seems set to streamline its premium offerings around its collaboration with Harley‑Davidson.
