Honda has presented the RTL ELECTRIC, a state of the art electric trial bike, ahead of the sixth round of the 2024 MFJ*1 All Japan Trial Championship Series in Wakayama/Yuasa. This introduction shows Honda’s commitment to revolutionizing motorcycle sports and is a major step toward the company’s goal of having its motorcycle lineup become carbon neutral by the 2040s.
The RTL ELECTRIC is a high-performance competitor of the Montesa COTA 4RT, which is renowned for dominating the trial bike market. The RTL ELECTRIC seeks to surpass its gasoline-powered predecessor by using a battery from the CR ELECTRIC PROTO motocross bike that has been adjusted for the specific needs of trials. The clutch, flywheel, and transmission are among the bike’s essential components, and the motor and inverter cooperate to produce excellent output performance.
The newly developed aluminum twin-tube frame, which is based on Honda’s RTL series, offers the ideal rigidity for increased riding stability and reduced weight. Additionally, the bike’s swing arm and EV component placement have been planned to offer the best center of gravity, enhancing mobility under challenging test circumstances.
Honda is actively pursuing electric motorcycle sports in addition to trial motorcycles. As a wildcard entrant in the All Japan Motocross Championship the year before, the CR ELECTRIC PROTO is a competitor in the global FIM*2 E-Xplorer World Cup, a series exclusively for electric off-road bikes. By competing in events like the All Japan Trial Championship Series, Honda intends to advance its electric technologies and demonstrate the potential of electric motorcycles in competitive sports.
