Huawei has expanded its market share in the electric vehicle (EV) sector with the launch of the Huawei Stelato S9 electric car, which was created in collaboration with BAIC Motors. This action follows Xiaomi’s entry into the automotive industry with the SU7 electric vehicle, illuminating a pattern of Chinese electronics businesses entering the automotive space. With the release of the Stelato S9, Huawei, which has long been recognized for its innovations in digital communications technology, is now making notable progress in the EV industry.

Standing at 5,160 mm in length, 1,987 mm in width, and 1,486 mm in height, the Stelato S9 is one of the biggest sedans available on the market, even larger than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long-Wheelbase variant. The Stelato S9 is priced at 399,800 yuan, which is approximately equal to INR 47 lakhs, and is available in China in two models: S9 Max and S9 Ultra. With All-Wheel Drive (AWD), the top speed of both models is restricted to 214 kmph. The base model has a single-motor system that produces 304 horsepower, while the more expensive dual-motor version offers 516 bhp.

The Stelato S9 is the result of the first joint venture between Huawei and BAIC Motors, a prominent player in the Chinese vehicle industry. With its aerodynamic shape, darkened lighting, retractable door handles, camera-based side mirrors, LIDAR for improved driver assistance, and big alloy wheels, this vehicle is a demonstration of cutting-edge technology.

The Stelato S9 has battery options that provide a range of more than 650 kilometers on a single charge: 79.9 kWh and 97.6 kWh.

With the formal launch of the Stelato S9, Huawei has made a clear shift in attention to the automotive sector, emphasizing cutting-edge design and technology in a market valued at around USD 500 billion. This launch, which was preceded by teaser visuals on Chinese social media throughout 2024, highlights Huawei’s strategic foray into the electric vehicle market. This model is an addition to Huawei’s current line of electric vehicles, which also includes the SERES SF5 and Aito M5. The joint venture with BAIC Motors blends Huawei’s technological acumen with BAIC’s knowledge of automotive manufacturing, suggesting that further joint ventures may be undertaken in the future.

Huawei is entering the electric vehicle (EV) market with the Stelato S9, using technical innovation to gain substantial market share in the automotive industry and indicating a promising future for the sector.
