Hyundai Motor Türkiye has announced plans to commence electric vehicle (EV) production at its İzmit plant in the second half of 2026. This strategic move aims to bolster the company’s sustainability initiatives and meet the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation in the European market.
Expansion of Production Capabilities
The İzmit facility will manufacture both EVs and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, enhancing Hyundai’s production capacity and product diversity. This expansion underscores the company’s commitment to supporting the global transition to green mobility while maintaining a robust presence in traditional vehicle segments.
Rebranding and Strategic Positioning
Reflecting its evolving role, Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Sanayi has been rebranded as Hyundai Motor Türkiye. As Hyundai Motor Group’s first and longest-standing overseas production hub outside Korea, the company has produced over three million vehicles in 28 years, significantly contributing to employment, exports, and Türkiye’s economy.
Local Sourcing and Economic Impact
Hyundai Motor Türkiye emphasizes local sourcing, with over 55% of vehicle components manufactured domestically through a network of more than 50 suppliers. This approach not only supports the local economy but also aligns with the company’s sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation and logistics.
Commitment to Sustainable Mobility
By introducing EV production in Türkiye, Hyundai Motor reinforces its dedication to sustainable mobility solutions. This initiative is a pivotal step toward achieving the company’s goal of offering only zero-tailpipe emission vehicles in Europe by 2035, highlighting its leadership in the automotive industry shift toward electrification.
