The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) announced a major reform aimed at accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India by reducing the processing time for EV subsidy claims from 40 days to just 5 days.
The initiative comes under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) India Scheme. Officials said the move is designed to improve the efficiency of subsidy disbursement and ensure timely financial support to both consumers and manufacturers.
MHI said it has upgraded its online portal and digital systems to enable real-time data verification and faster processing of claims. The ministry has also coordinated with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to streamline document submission and minimize delays.
This policy shift is expected to benefit EV buyers directly, while also encouraging manufacturers to ramp up production and maintain inventory without subsidy-related uncertainties. It is part of a larger effort to make EVs more accessible and to meet India’s clean mobility goals.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor the system to ensure transparency and efficiency. Officials believe the revised timeline will strengthen public trust in the subsidy process and contribute to the country’s broader transition to electric transportation.
