IONNA has inaugurated its first electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in Apex, North Carolina, marking a significant step in enhancing high-speed charging infrastructure. The facility, known as a ‘Rechargery,’ features 10 covered DC fast-charging stalls capable of delivering up to 400 kW with 800-volt output. Each stall is equipped with both CCS1 and NACS connectors, accommodating a wide range of EV models. The chargers utilize Alpitronic 400 Hypercharger HYC400 units, which include liquid-cooled cables supporting up to 500 A, with a 600 A boost, allowing for charging up to 1,000 V. This setup mirrors the technology used in Ionity charging hubs.
The Apex location is designed to offer a comprehensive charging experience, featuring a lounge, restrooms, and food and beverage services. This initiative is part of IONNA’s broader strategy to establish a network of high-powered EV charging stations across North America, aiming to facilitate long-distance travel for electric vehicle owners. The company plans to open additional stations in the coming months, with a goal of reaching 50 locations by the end of 2026.
In December 2024, IONNA announced a partnership with Sheetz, a chain of 24/7 convenience stores, to convert approximately 50 of its truck stop locations into ‘Rechargery’ hubs by the end of 2026. This collaboration is expected to expand the availability of fast-charging stations, particularly in the Midwest and Eastern United States.
The establishment of this charging hub underscores IONNA’s commitment to advancing EV infrastructure and supporting the transition to electric mobility.
