The upcoming fully-electric Jeep Compass EV has been spotted undergoing final testing in Italy, ahead of its global debut later this year. This marks a significant step for Jeep as it transitions to the STLA Medium platform, retiring the previous FCA-era architecture. The new Compass EV is expected to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrains, catering to a diverse range of consumers.

Design and Features

The prototype showcases a boxier and more muscular design compared to its predecessor. Notable design elements include a faux grille panel with a piano black finish, rectangular LED headlamps, and a flatter roofline. The front bumper is equipped with a cooling intake featuring active flaps, enhancing aerodynamic efficiency. The side profile reveals new alloy wheels and a clean beltline, contributing to its modern aesthetic. The rear features revised C-shaped LED taillights and the prominent “JEEP” logo.

Powertrain and Performance

While Jeep has not disclosed specific powertrain details, it’s anticipated that the Compass EV will offer two battery options: 73 kWh and 97 kWh. The top-spec model is expected to feature a dual-motor setup, providing enhanced performance and all-wheel-drive capabilities. This aligns with Jeep’s commitment to delivering a versatile and capable electric SUV.

Production and Availability

Production of the new-generation Compass is set to commence later this year at Stellantis’ plant in Melfi, Italy. The vehicle is expected to launch in European markets soon after. However, due to the new platform’s commercial viability in India, the Compass EV may not be available in the Indian market initially. Jeep continues to produce the current-generation Compass in India for right-hand-drive markets.

Conclusion

The Jeep Compass EV represents a significant advancement in Jeep’s electrification strategy, combining rugged design with modern electric capabilities. As the global automotive industry shifts towards sustainable mobility, the Compass EV is poised to play a pivotal role in Jeep’s future lineup. Indian consumers may have to wait for the next-generation Compass to experience this electrified SUV firsthand.
