Kia has officially announced that its electric vehicle (EV) owners can now access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network across North America. This development significantly expands charging options for Kia drivers, adding over 21,500 Tesla Superchargers to the more than 22,000 DC fast chargers already available through other networks, totaling over 40,000 accessible chargers.
The integration allows Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV owners to utilize Tesla’s high-speed DC charging infrastructure. While upcoming models like the 2025 EV6 and 2026 EV9 will come equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, current owners can use CCS1-to-NACS adapters available through Kia dealerships.
To enhance user experience, Kia has updated its infotainment system and the Kia Access app, enabling drivers to locate Superchargers, monitor their availability, and initiate charging sessions seamlessly. Additionally, the Kia Charge Pass program simplifies payment processes, making charging more convenient for users.
This move aligns Kia with other major automakers like Ford, GM, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar, Hyundai, Lucid, Nissan, and Genesis, who have also embraced the NACS infrastructure. By adopting Tesla’s charging standard, Kia aims to reduce range anxiety and promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
The rollout, initially slated for January 2025, faced delays but is now fully operational. Kia’s commitment to expanding charging accessibility underscores its dedication to providing comprehensive support for its EV customers.
As the EV market continues to grow, Kia’s integration with Tesla’s Supercharger network represents a significant step toward a more connected and efficient charging ecosystem, benefiting both current and future Kia EV owners.
