Kia Corporation has celebrated the launch of the Kia Gwangmyeong EVO Plant, The Hyundai Motor Group’s (the Group) first dedicated electric vehicle manufacturing plant. The new South Korean facility, located at Kia Autoland Gwangmyeong, started producing the Kia EV3 in the first half of this year and the EV4 in the first half of 2025. It has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
Kia invited roughly 150 guests to an event celebrating the project’s completion at the new Kia Gwangmyeong EVO Plant. Among them were O Kyeong Lim and Nam Hee Kim, members of South Korea’s 22nd National Assembly, and Jun Young Choi, executive vice president and head of Kia’s domestic production division.
“With the company’s brand relaunch in 2021, the completion of the Kia Gwangmyeong EVO Plant solidifies Kia’s first step as an EV leader.” “We will lead innovation in the EV market and fulfill our responsibilities in helping to deliver a sustainable future with the goal of providing sustainable mobility solutions,” said Jun Young Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Domestic Production Division at Kia, in her welcoming speech at the event.
In order to adapt quickly to shifts in the global demand for EVs, Kia has been carefully planning for EV manufacturing at its global locations. Spread over around 60,000 square meters, the Gwangmyeong EVO Plant is a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) facility that will serve as an outpost for Kia’s popular EV automobiles, with an expenditure of KRW 401.6 billion.
