Kia is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the EV2, a compact and affordable electric SUV designed to cater to urban drivers. Positioned below the EV3, the EV2 aims to offer a practical solution for city commuting without compromising on features or comfort. The vehicle was recently spotted undergoing road tests, signaling its readiness for production.
Measuring approximately 4,000 mm in length, the EV2 maintains a compact footprint suitable for navigating tight city streets. Despite its size, Kia emphasizes that the interior space is optimized for comfort and versatility. During Milan Design Week, Kia showcased the EV2’s interior concept, highlighting features like a flat floor plan and adjustable seating, allowing for configurations that can accommodate various activities, from stretching out to enjoying a meal.
The EV2’s design incorporates elements from its larger siblings, such as the EV3, EV5, and EV9, including vertical daytime running lights and a distinctive front-end design. Its broad wheel arches and upright stance give it a substantial presence on the road. Inside, the EV2 is expected to feature Kia’s latest ccNC panoramic infotainment system, with dual 12.3-inch screens for the driver and navigator, enhancing the driving experience with advanced connectivity and entertainment options.
Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the EV2 is anticipated to offer a WLTP range of approximately 300 miles (483 km), making it a competitive option in the compact EV segment. Kia plans to offer different battery configurations to cater to varying customer needs and budgets. The EV2 is slated for production in Slovakia, with an expected launch in Europe and other markets in early 2026.
Pricing for the EV2 is projected to start around £25,000 ($32,000), positioning it as an accessible entry point into the electric vehicle market. This strategic pricing aims to attract a broader customer base, including those who may be new to electric vehicles. Kia’s CEO, Ho-Sung Song, has emphasized the importance of offering more affordable EV options to meet the company’s ambitious goal of selling 1.6 million electric vehicles annually by 2030.
