Swiss electrical‑measurement specialist LEM has launched its DCES600 and DCES1500 direct‑current metering solutions, targeting the burgeoning demand from electric‑vehicle fast‑charging infrastructure. Aimed at applications ranging from public fast‑chargers to megawatt‑class truck and bus depots, these meters integrate LEM’s metrology prowess for accurate energy billing and operational oversight.

The DCES series delivers class‑B accuracy at currents up to 1,500 A under extreme temperatures (–40 °C to +85 °C), without performance loss. This level of precision ensures reliable measurement from peak charge to cycle taper, a critical feature for billing commercial fleets and heavy‑duty transport users.

Connectivity comes via a cyber‑secure RS485 interface, enabling authenticated data transmission, remote maintenance and firmware updates—features designed to help operators curb downtime and operating expenses. An optional RDU (Remote Display Unit) provides versatile HMI installation options without requiring additional comms wiring.

Engineered with rugged glass‑fiber reinforced casings and large power terminals, the DCES600 is rated up to 1,000 V DC, while the DCES1500 supports up to 1,500 V DC. Both models feature broad busbar contact areas capable of handling elevated operating temperatures, bolstered by protective covers and seals.

LEM’s meters cater to a broad range of use cases: the DCES600 for fast‑charging hubs, the DCES1500 for megawatt‑scale vehicle charging, fleet‑depot installations for energy monitoring and regulatory compliance, and embedded OEM integration within battery systems or industrial DC networks.

Certification efforts are in progress ahead of full rollout expected by late 2025. The units are designed to comply with EU MID 2014/32/EU and Germany’s Eichrecht calibration laws, enabling legal‑for‑trade billing in regulated markets. Samples are currently available to support early integration and ecosystem adoption.
