Mahindra has updated its policy regarding electric vehicle (EV) purchases, offering customers the choice to opt out of buying a company-supplied charger when purchasing the XEV 9e and BE 6 models. Previously, purchasing a charger was mandatory, unless buyers lacked the necessary home or work facilities for private charging or already owned a compatible charger meeting Mahindra’s safety standards.
Under the new policy, buyers are now allowed to skip the charger purchase, with the understanding that a single charging station could serve multiple vehicles in a household with more than one Mahindra EV. However, Mahindra continues to offer two charging options: the 7.2kW and 11kW AC chargers, priced at ₹50,000 and ₹75,000, respectively, which remain mandatory for those opting for company-supplied chargers.
The BE 6, available in the Pack Three top model, comes with a 79kWh battery pack and offers various charging times. When connected to an 11kW charger, the battery can charge from 0 to 100 percent in 8 hours, while it takes 11.7 hours using the 7.2kW charger. The smaller 59kWh battery variants in other BE 6 models charge in a shorter time, taking 6 hours with the 11kW charger and 8.7 hours with the 7.2kW option.
The Mahindra XEV 9e, which shares similar charger options and battery configurations with the BE 6, will also offer the same charging times, with a choice of the 79kWh or 59kWh battery packs. However, the XEV 9e will not feature the Pack One Above variant available in its smaller electric SUV counterpart.
As Mahindra prepares to begin deliveries of its electric vehicles around mid-March, the policy shift allows for greater flexibility for customers, while still maintaining access to reliable charging options through its network.
