Mahindra plans to launch the XUV 3XO EV, an all-electric vehicle, before the end of this year. Internally known as the S240, it is scheduled to go into series production by November of this year and will sit below the XUV400 EV in Mahindra’s lineup. The development of this new electric SUV, which is based on the former XUV300 model—now known as the XUV 3XO—was previously reported around the end of last year. Although the initial launch was scheduled for the middle of 2024, it doesn’t seem to have happened on time.

With the XUV 3XO EV’s mass market appeal, Mahindra has set a production target of 1,500 to 1,800 units per month, which is a pretty low quantity. This production number may indicate a broader slowdown in the uptake of electric vehicles, especially in light of the XUV400 EV’s poor sales performance in spite of multiple revisions. Mahindra plans to build roughly 12,000 XUV 3XOs overall, using a combination of electric, diesel, and gasoline as fuel. In contrast to the XUV400 EV, the new XUV 3XO EV will have the same dimensions as its ICE equivalent and a facelifted SUV-like style, while it is likely to include some electric vehicle-specific design cues.

A 34.5kWh battery pack, also utilized in the less expensive XUV 400 EV models, will provide the energy for the XUV 3XO EV. At now, there is no information available regarding the electric motor’s characteristics and range.

Regarding cost, Mahindra plans to offer the XUV 3XO EV for sale at a considerably reduced price point in contrast to the XUV400 EV. It will cost between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 17 lakh, which is about Rs 2 lakh less than the more expensive XUV400 EV. Mahindra is optimistic that the XUV 3XO EV will offer a far greater competitive edge and pose a serious threat to competitors like the Tata Nexon, despite the XUV400 EV’s lackluster sales.
