Maruti Suzuki, the leading carmaker in India, may set up 25,000 recharge stations around the country. Before the debut of its first EV, the business has already started to set the foundation for the extensive EV charging network.

Maruti Suzuki is considering establishing an EV charging network with oil marketing companies (OMCs), including a state-run company, in preparation for the launch of the Concept eVX, the company’s first electric vehicle, in January 2025, according to The Economic Times. Additionally, it is looking for charging stations in the service departments of its dealerships. Every location should have two charging points and at least one charging bay installed, according to the manufacturer. According to a previous moneycontrol story, the business is also educating service mechanics in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

With a combined network of 81,000 retail locations, the state-run Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) are the top OMCs in India. They are already working together to install thousands of EV charging stations across the nation. While HPCL now runs 3,050 chargers and intends to expand that number to 5,000 by December, IOCL alone has deployed nearly 10,000 EV charging stations. By March 2025, BPCL hopes to have more than 7,000 EV charging stations operating. Currently, it has over 1,000.

Maruti Suzuki has high hopes for its electric vehicles, as evidenced by its plans for a vast EV charging network. The business will introduce a compact electric SUV that resembles the ICE Grand Vitara as its debut product.

In addition, the business hopes to sell 3,000 of its debut electric vehicle within three months of release. The western region of the nation, Gujarat, is where it will be constructed. But Maruti Suzuki would first export the car to Japan and Europe before starting local sales.
