Indian startup Matter Motors has launched the Aera, the country’s first electric motorcycle equipped with a 4‑speed manual gearbox. Designed to deliver a traditional riding feel with instant electric torque through the HyperShift transmission, this naked streetfighter blends heritage and innovation.

Powered by a liquid‑cooled 5 kWh battery and a 10–11.5 kW motor, the Aera hits 0–40 km/h in about 2.8 seconds, tops out near 105 km/h, and offers a claimed range of 125–172 km.

Riders benefit from modern conveniences: a 7‑inch touchscreen cluster with 4G/Bluetooth, USB charging, ride modes, OTA updates, keyless entry, geo‑fencing and connectivity via the Matter app.

Built on Matter’s vertically-integrated platform, the Aera’s liquid-cooled motor and battery system ensures performance consistency even in Indian heat, while a single‑channel ABS and dual disc brakes enhance safety.

Launched in two trims (5000 and 5000+), the Aera is priced between ₹1.74–1.88 lakh (ex‑showroom), with early‑bird Bangalore buyers receiving a limited-time warranty—free lifetime battery cover and three‑year warranty on the bike.

Following over 40,000 pre‑bookings, rollout began in Bengaluru with plans to expand to major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and more. Matter aims to deliver on bookings by early 2024 and open 150 dealerships by March 2025.

Matter’s Aera marks a unique bridge for riders transitioning from ICE bikes to EVs—packing gear‑shifting thrills, electric efficiency, and smart tech into a clean‑energy package.
