To support India’s transition to greener mobility, Musashi Auto Parts intends to invest Rs 160 crore in Bangalore to localize the production of EV two-wheeler e-axles, with a target of 1 million units yearly by 2030.
Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Musashi Seimitsu Industries, Japan, said on June 5th that it is investing Rs 160 crore in its electric vehicle (EV) business. The Bangalore facility of the company has initiated the mass manufacturing of electric two-wheeler e-axles, with a starting capacity of 10,000 e-axles per month in phase 1.
In the third year, plans call for adding more lines to the production process. The e-axles are renowned for their silent operation, lightweight construction, and compact size. They are designed to improve performance and range, giving users of electric two-wheelers an amazing ride.
This breakthrough represents a major turning point for Musashi, solidifying its place in the expanding Indian EV market and assisting in the country’s transition to more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
Together with Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Delta Electronics, Inc., Musashi Auto Parts India Pvt Ltd is actively growing its market share in India’s electric vehicle market. Operating out of a specialized facility in Bangalore, Musashi Delta e-Axle India Private Limited is a joint venture in which Musashi maintains a majority ownership of 51%.
This facility hosts assembly lines for both motor and drive units to produce and distribute e-axles for two-wheeler EVs across India, Africa, and ASEAN markets. Musashi is on track to achieve a localization level of two-thirds of the total cost by the end of the financial year, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and reducing import dependency.
With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Musashi is poised to contribute significantly to the growth of India’s EV industry, aligning with national objectives of promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions amidst rising EV demand in the market.
The CEO of Musashi India & Africa Region, Naoya Nishimura, says that the start of e-axle production is a significant step forward in their goal of encouraging EV adoption in India and hastening the transition to sustainable transportation. He emphasizes how cutting-edge technology are incorporated into the assembly lines to improve output and assembly efficiency. Musashi’s dedication to profoundly influencing India’s electric vehicle market and bolstering international initiatives for more environmentally friendly mobility options is exemplified by this calculated move.
