A strategic agreement has been formed between leading electric vehicle battery manufacturer Neuron Energy and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) pioneer Pointo. This cooperation will allow high-capacity lithium-ion batteries to be leased to Indian commercial e-rickshaws, a big step in the country’s transition to more sustainably powered transportation.
Beginning in August 2024 and continuing through the following year, Neuron Energy will deliver up to 12,000 5.1KW lithium-ion batteries for L3 category e-rickshaws, assisting the industry’s transition from lead-acid to lithium-ion technology. This partnership is expected to significantly speed up the development of eco-friendly transportation particularly in key regions like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Kolkata.
The well-known company Neuron Energy offers a wide range of electric mobility options, including lead-acid, lithium-ion, and sodium-ion batteries. Through this program Pointo will lease Neuron’s state-of-the-art battery packs as part of its EV service model, providing e-rickshaw drivers with high-performing cost-effective battery replacements. It is expected that the measure will expedite the deployment of next-generation batteries in India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle sector and enhance the infrastructure supporting electric mobility.
