Chinese EV maker Nio has officially opened its 1,000th highway battery‑swap station, completing a network that now spans 550 cities across mainland China, as part of its rapid expansion strategy .

The milestone station is located at the Fushan Service Area on the G5011 Wuhu–Hefei Highway, a critical artery that links eastern and central China. It marks a pivotal point in Nio’s goal to provide seamless long-distance travel without range anxiety.

Overall, Nio now operates 3,399 battery‑swap stations nationwide—including city and highway sites—and 79 million swaps have been completed to date. The network is complemented by over 2,800 super charging stations.

This highway milestone enhances connectivity and convenience, ensuring users of Nio and Onvo vehicles can swap batteries quickly on major intercity routes.

Nio is also fostering ecosystem partnerships: agreements are now in place with Zeekr, Xiaomi EV, AVATR, Chery, Geely, Cadillac, Buick, and others to expand compatibility, with full interoperability mandated by Chinese government policy.

In parallel, Nio continues scaling globally. The company has over 60 swap stations in Europe and plans to deploy fifth-generation “Firefly”-compatible stations starting 2026, aligning with its broader push toward open, standardized, and efficient EV energy solutions.
